Paratransit can be used in a medical context as well as for recreational outings. It is a non-emergency adapted transportation of a person from his or her home or hospital for an appointment or to get to other destinations. We work closely with local hospitals but also have private clients who use our service.

Once the appointment is made with the dispatch team, we will pick up the patient from their home and transport them to their destination. Once the appointment or activity is completed, the person contacts TSMO by phone so that the driver can pick them up at the same location. With 24 years of experience and expertise, we are able to adapt to all environments and to respond well to our patients’ needs despite the various conditions that are specific to each of them.

Most of our users are experiencing a loss of mobility, whether it is for a temporary or one-time period (after surgery or a car or work accident). Our patients are also seniors who must use wheelchairs to go to medical appointments or to visit their family.

No, we have Broda type wheelchairs that are cushioned and comfortable for the duration of the transportation. However, we can bring the patient’’s wheelchair or walker in the adapted vehicle to use them during the appointment. Motorized wheelchairs are also permitted in our vehicle.

We have a stair chair that makes it easier for the patient to get up and down the stairs without physical exertion. Two drivers will assist to ensure everyone’s safety.

Yes, we accept family members or spouses. Our vehicles have booster seats to allow for one to two companions.

Appointments can be made by phone or by email to provide details of your outing. Reservation deadlines are 24 hours or less. However, we must have a minimum of one hour’s notice when the request is made the same day. Our online form is also a way to make a reservation or request information about our transportation.

It is possible to pay by credit card or cash and you will receive a receipt by mail or email. The service is payable at the end of the transportation, on the same day the service was provided. We can also accept payment by phone with the family who is not present.

Some private insurance companies reimburse the cost of paratransit with a doctor’s prescription. You have to make sure that you are covered on your own. We can bill the SAAQ and CNESST directly for transportation. The RAMQ does not reimburse any fees.

Our drivers all have a minimum of class 4B licence in addition to first aid and CPR training. We also require that our team members have PDSB (Principles of Safe Travel for Beneficiaries) training. We ask that our employees submit their driving record annually to ensure that they are in good standing and always drive safely.

Our licence allows us to go anywhere in Canada and even in the United States. Distances are not limited to the Ottawa-Gatineau area. We drive long distances in some cases for medical appointments in Montréal or Québec City. We wait on site for the duration of the appointment.

Yes, we have adapted a vehicle specifically with a partition that separates the passenger compartment from the driver. We have personal protective equipment such as medical gowns, masks, visors, and gloves. In addition, we have a very rigorous cleaning process after each transport with cleaning products certified by Health Canada as germicides. No family members or companions may be in the vehicle other than the medical professionals provided by the hospital.
